Obituary

Fannie McNeil was born on September 21, 1939 the daughter of the late Virginia Evely and the late Luther Spencer.  She was also reared by her stepmother, the late Florence Johnson. Born with a gentle spirit and a heart committed to service, Fannie touched countless lives through her compassion, wisdom, and quiet generosity. She was known for her warm smile, her willingness to help anyone in need, and her ability to make everyone around her feel valued and seen. Whether through her words, her work, or her presence, Fannie brought comfort and encouragement wherever she went. Fannie cherished her family deeply and was a pillar of love, guidance, and support. Her home was a place of open doors, open arms, and open hearts. She believed in the power of family, faith, and community, and she lived her life in a way that reflected these values every day. Mother Fannie McNeil was a faithful and dedicated member of St. James Holiness Church. She was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, the Missionary Society, and the Mothers' Board. She was a godly woman who was well loved by her church family. In addition to her parents, Fannie was preceded in death by her daughter, Yvonne McNeil; sisters, Melissa Green, Thomasina Evely, and Virginia Evely; brother, Winfield Spencer; and brothers-in-law, Albert McNeil, Douglas Johnson, and Michael Johnson. Fannie departed this life on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.  Fannie leaves behind loved ones who will forever treasure her memory and carry forward the lessons she so gracefully taught: to be kind, to be strong, and to love unapologetically. Her children, Yvette Graves, Elbert McNeil and Ta-Tanisha Pierre; daughter-in-law, Katherine McNeil; grandchildren, Tywann Graves, Erick McNeil, Akia Pierre, Ronald Pierre Jr., Zahmiya Smith-McNeil and Saadiya Rainey; great grandchild, Kyden Pierre-Harnest; her beloved sisters, Margaret Lawson, Cheryl Hardy, Barbara Gorrell, Earleen Johnson, Patricia Johnson, Valerie Brooks; sisters-in-law, Michelle Evely and Janett Spencer Carter; brothers-in-law, Elder Willie Lawson, Ransom Evely, Larry Johnson, Luther Johnson, and Samuel Spencer; aunt, Carrie Williams; uncle, Charles "Bubba" Williams; best friends, Marlene Rowe, Roberta Bradford, Josephine Dove, Annis Lavender, and Ruby Thomas; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will deeply miss her.  Though Fannie is no longer with us in body, her spirit, her laughter, and her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
