Obituary

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4 Elisha Allen Garland, Jr., was born on June 19, 1963, in Sumter, South Carolina, to the late Elisha Allen Garland, Sr. and Evelyn Weston Garland. Elisha attended the public schools of Sumter County. He was a 1982 graduate of Sumter High School. Elisha loved the Lord, going to church, and singing. He began his walk of faith and his Christian journey at an early age by accepting His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Elisha's journey led him to St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, under the leadership of the late Susie Rembert Butler. He played the drums and sang on the male chorus choir. Elisha continued his worship after marrying his wife, Louise Williamson Garland, at Round "0" of Darlington, South Carolina. Elisha loved exploring new things, helping people, and had a heart full of love for his family and friends. He went to California where he attended college until he returned to Sumter. Elisha came home to spend time with family and friends. Elisha then journeyed to New Jersey and while there, he spent time spreading the gospel at Good Shepherd and played the drums for several organizations. He had a generous and giving spirit. Elisha had a deep love for people that created an atmosphere full of love, sprinkled full of forgiveness and grace within his home and community. Elisha was employed by Georgia Power Plant in Augusta, South Carolina, where he supervised until he moved from Darlington to Sumter, South Carolina. Upon his return to Sumter, he continued painting and other side jobs. Elisha was preceded in death by his father, Elisha Garland, Sr. and his sister, Sharon Theresa Garland.
