https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/edward-wright Edward Joseph "Eddie Joe" Wright was born to the late James and Mattie Jones Wright on December 1, 1940, in Wedgefield, South Carolina. He was educated in the Sumter County School System. He grew up in a religious home and became a member of Orangehill AME Church in Wedgefield, South Carolina at an early age. As a young man, he relocated to New York with his family. He became a vital member of Varick Memorial AME Zion Church in Brooklyn, New York, where he will always be remembered for his powerful prayers and service. He served on the Steward and Trustee boards, was a member of the Finance Committee, and was in the Male Chorus. Eddie Joe worked as a Truck Driver for IG Federal Electrical Supply Company for thirty -two (32) years and retired in 2002. He spent many of his retirement years traveling between New York to South Carolina. Upon permanently relocating back to South Carolina, he renewed his membership at Orangehill AME in Wedgefield, South Carolina. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and his jokes and sayings are often repeated by his family and friends. "Uncle Eddie Joe was simply the "Favorite Uncle" for everyone, and we will miss him immensely", niece Shawn Oxendine Walter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Wright and his niece, Michelle Chapman. Eddie Joe departed this life on Friday, February 3, 2023, in Columbia, South Carolina. His memory will be cherished by his sister and best friend, Lillian "Elaine" Peay, his wife, Louise Oxendine Wright; three daughters, Jacquelyn (Alvoyd) Nicks of Lithonia, Georgia; Janice "Terri" (James) Potter of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Valorie Wright of Sumter, South Carolina, one son, Bruce (Okeyma) Wright of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; eight (8) grandchildren, nine (9) great-grandchildren, cousins Geraldine Johnson, Evelyn Miller, and Lucille Nelson, all of South Carolina; good friends, Thurston Mattocks of Greenville, North Carolina and James Kelly of Wedgefield, South Carolina, three (3) sisters-in-law, two (2) brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
