Obituary Dorothy Haynesworth Rucker was born August 13, 1943 in Sumter, SC to the late Harold and Janie Smith Haynesworth. She was the youngest of six children, which included her sister, Mary and her brothers, Lafayette, Harold, Bradley, Albertus and Marcus. Dorothy was educated in Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School, she received an Associate Degree from SUNY Empire College in Long Island, NY. In 1961, she traveled to New York with her husband, Artis Jack Rucker to pursue their dreams and start a family, they lived in Harlem, Brooklyn and Hempstead, NY. They were married for fifty-three years and they reared four beautiful daughters and a lovely niece in New York. She assisted her husband in starting their Private Security Firm, Herkimer Protection, which was featured in Black Enterprise Magazine as a new successful Security Company in Brooklyn, NY. Dorothy was an articulate, smart and beautiful woman who believed in education and hard work. She loved cooking, reading, politics and debating with her family and friends. She always wanted to have the last word, "And She Did". Dorothy worked for the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation of Sumter, SC for many years as well as the many companies she founded with her husband. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rucker was preceded in death by her husband, Artis Jack Rucker. Dorothy went to sunset on June 19, 2017 in Washington, DC. She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Christine Rucker and Renee Davis both of Brooklyn, NY, Naomi Rucker and Janae Rucker both of Sumter, SC; her niece, Vivian Jett-Brown of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren, Jordan Davis, Keenen Rucker, Brittany Ferebee, Koraan Williams, Kalyntae Rucker, Julea Ferebee, Brandon Rucker-Richardson, Hunter Ferebee and Naseem Khalid; great granddaughter, Harmoni Rayne Livingston; four son in laws, Jay Davis, Jerome Richardson, Jules Ferebee and James Brown; two brother-in-laws, Bobby Rucker and Hallie Rucker; sister in law, DollyAnn Rucker and a host of other relatives and close friends.
