Obituary

Donald Fredrick King was born on October 18, 1960, in Laurel, Maryland to the late William F. and Alice Reynolds King.

Donald lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love for his family and the things that brought him joy. Don graduated from Anne Arundel County High School in 1980 and pursued his interest in horticulture at Michigan State University for two years. Later, he shifted his career focus and attended the GM Institute in Flint, Michigan. His professional journey led him to become a highly skilled estimator for car repairs. Known as one of the best in his field, Don not only excelled professionally but also mentored many young men in the automotive body shop industry, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and careers. Don’s life was defined by his deep love for his family.

Don had a zest for life that was evident to all who knew him. He loved NASCAR racing and could often be found cheering on his favorite drivers. A talented cook with a flair for creating delicious meals, he enjoyed sharing this passion with those around him. His bird Lucky—affectionately referred to as "the other wife"—was a constant companion who brought him much joy. Gardening and horticulture remained close to Don’s heart throughout his life. He found peace tending to plants and took pride in nurturing his beautiful gardens. Sunsets and bonfires were among his favorite moments of tranquility and reflection.

Every July 4th was an event to remember with Don at the helm—he delighted in lighting up the neighborhood with spectacular fireworks displays. A lover of classic rock music from the '70s and '80s, Don’s playlists were filled with timeless hits that reflected his vibrant personality. A proud fan of the Washington Redskins football team—often exclaiming "Hail to the Redskins!"—he celebrated their victories with enthusiasm. Don’s warmth extended beyond family to friends and strangers alike. Known for never meeting a stranger, he had an uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life and his kindness made him a good friend to many qualities that will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
