Dewey Spencer, Sr. was born August 29, 1944, in Horatio, South Carolina to the late Stolley and Eva Jackson Waiters and Winfield (Bossie) and Nettie Richbow Spencer. Dewey attended the public schools of in Sumter County. He was a lifelong member of the Willow Grove AME Church where he served as a trustee. Dewey worked for Sloan Construction Company for thirty-nine (39) years until his retirement. While at Sloan Construction Company, he was provided the opportunity to travel to two different countries, Ascension Island and Azores, Portugal. He loved growing his vegetables in his garden to share with the community, as well as fishing and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by one son, Michael Spencer; two brothers, Charles Jackson and Stolley Waiters; two sisters, Virginia Collier and Lola Mae Sanders. On Friday, June 21, 2024, Dewey Spencer, Sr. transitioned to his heavenly home at his residence. Dewey leaves to cherish his memories, three loving sons, Dewey Spencer, Jr. and Norman Spencer both of Horatio, South Carolina and Gary Spencer of Camden, South Carolina; one loving daughter, Kendra McBride of Columbia, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Nakai "Nikki' Richardson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Sterling Maxwell Orange of Columbia, South Carolina; two sisters, Tempie (Lewis) Pinkney and Eva Deloris Waiters both of Horatio, South Carolina; two brothers, Thorthon Curlie Waiters and Arnie Waiters both of Horatio, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Belinda (Mark) Mickle and Lucille Waiters; two brothers-in-law, Theodore (Javonne) Collier and Willie (Shirley) Jackson; two special friends, Jeffery Snow and Gable Brunson; bonus family, The Prioleau Family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Dewey will be truly missed by all who knew him.
