Carl was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and a member of the graduating class of 1982 from Sumter High School. At an early age, Carl accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and united with the Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Sumter, South Carolina. Carl was employed with several restaurants as a chef and the latest being a manager at California Dreaming in Columbia, South Carolina. Carl was known as a kind and gentle man. He would do anything, he could to help others, he never told anyone "no". Those who knew him, can attest to how he was a quiet person, however also a jokester. Carl's family saw him as a real trooper, he always had a positive attitude in spite of his disability. He was a die heart Philadelphia Eagles football fan. In addition to his father, Carl was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Limas and Elouise Nelson and a niece, Brittany Shavon Pringle. Carl departed this life on Thursday, January 12, 2023, in Sumter, South Carolina. Carl's fond and loving memory will be cherished by his mother, Mary Nelson Tomlin; sister, Karen T. (Anthony) Boyd; brother, Elroy Tomlin both of Sumter, South Carolina; a niece, Letitia McKnight; an uncle, Herbert L. Nelson; four aunts, Martha N. Pringle, Sylvia Mack, Vera Blossom and Julie Scott; a special friend, Gwendolyn Simmins of Hope Mills, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
