Bessie Gibbs Jefferson, the wife of James Jefferson was born on November 2, 1953, in Belhaven, North Carolina, to the late Sim and Bessie Borrow Gibbs. She was the youngest of thirteen children, all of whom preceded her in death. Bessie was educated in North Carolina and graduated from Mattamuskeet High School. She worked as a juvenile clerk for five years before dedicating herself to serving others as a home care provider, a role she continued until her passing. She was a devoted member of Faith Refuge Church of Christ, where she professed her faith at an early age. She loved working in the church and found great joy in praising the Lord. She served on several committees and was always eager to help others. Bessie was known for her warm smile and kind heart. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who always thought of others in their times of need. She believed that while one may have the right to do something, it was always more important to do the right thing. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, Steven Jefferson. Bessie departed this life on January 24, 2025, in New Haven, Connecticut. She is survived by her loving husband, James Jefferson; daughter, Sholanda Gibbs; granddaughters, Boo and Twiggy; adopted sister, Carol Rizzolo; adopted brother-in-law, Larry Rizzolo; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will cherish her memory. Bessie's life was one of faith, love, and service to others. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
