Bertha attended the public schools of Sumter County. Later she began her career as a custodian at Shaw Heights Elementary School. After 27 years of service, she retired from the school district. Bertha was raised in a Christian home and attended Good Hope United Methodist Church in Rembert, SC. While attending Good Hope, she was baptized and was a part of the gospel choir. Upon moving to Sumter, she became a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. She remained an active member until her health failed. In addition to her mother, Bertha was preceded in death by her late husband, Richard Fluellen; five children, Evelyn, Clara, Michael, Robin, and Sophia Fluellen-Pearson; sister, Edna Jasper and a great-granddaughter, Takeilah Spencer. Bertha was summoned by her heavenly father to come home on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Bertha leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter, Hazel (Gallman) Wicker of Sumter, SC; twelve grandchildren, Lashonka Spencer of Atlanta, GA, Shameeka (Byrounne) Washington of Sumter, SC, Chief Warrant Officer Two Sharee (Wayne) Adger of Augusta, GA, Trevon Fluellen of Sumter, SC, Master Sgt. Latonya (Andre) James of Charleston, SC, Mario Spencer of Sumter, SC, Laquonda (Aaron) Amos of Atlanta, GA, Porcha Spencer of Sumter, SC, James Bradford of Sumter, SC, Lashira Spencer of Columbia, SC, Rico McCoy of Sumter, SC, and Stephan Pearson of Charlotte, NC; twenty-six great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special great grandchildren, Chelsey Spencer, Rayqwan Conyers, and Brenna Conyers; one special cousin, Shirley Starks of Rembert, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
