Minister Bertha McCants-Jones, affectionately called Tiney, was born in Lee County, South Carolina on January 26, 1956 to her wonderful parents, the late Charlie and Bertha McCants. She attended the public schools of Lee County, SC.
As a young child, she began her spiritual journey at Mt. Moriah AME Church in St. Charles, SC with her parents and siblings. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, Bertha matriculated to South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC and later graduated in 1978, with her Bachelors of Science Degree. After graduating from college, she relocated to Manhattan, New York. Later, she moved to Irvington, New Jersey and was married to Mr. James Jones. The two of them were blessed with two children, Bertram Nipper and Ericka Jones.
Minister Bertha McCants-Jones was employed as a secretary for the Department of Housing of Irvington and East Orange New Jersey for many years. She and her family became members of the Deliverance Jesus Is Coming Church under the leadership of the late Bishop James H. Everette. She was a very faithful member, attending Bible Study, Prayer Service and Sunday Morning Worship. As time progressed, she was licensed in the ministry under the late Bishop Everette and the current Pastor, Pastor Vanessa Everette. As a minister, she found herself serving in several capacities, including being the President of the Usher Board.
To further her biblical studies, Minister Bertha McCants-Jones graduated with her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Biblical Theology from Jameson Christian College in 2014 and was later honored by the Deliverance Jesus Is Coming Church in 2018 at their Harvest Banquet.
After relocating back to South Carolina, Minister Bertha Jones along with her husband and grandson, joined the St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of Elder Barrington Pierson and First Lady Betty Pierson. She was very faithful in attending Sunday School and Sunday Morning Worship and often attended Midweek Services. Due to a sudden decline in her health, she was unable to attend services as she desired. However, when she was able to come to church, she gave God her very Best Praise. She was always glad to make it to the House of Worship and Praise. Minister McCants-Jones never met a stranger. If you were ever in her presence, she enjoyed talking and laughing and talking about the goodness of the Lord.
Minister McCants-Jones transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 31, 2026 in Sumter, South Carolina.
She leaves to cherish in loving memories her husband, Bro.
