Obituary Bennie Harvin was born April 20, 1926 to the late Thomas and Agnes Glisson Harvin in Sumter, SC.He was reared in a Christian home and at an early age, he joined the La Gree AME Church in Sumter, SC. He attended school in Sumter, SC. Later in life, he relocated to Washington, DC and joined Bible Way Temple Church.As a child, Bennie loved to take things apart and put them together again and loved working on cars. He had a gift of being able to ask you to start your car and tell you what was wrong with it. During the 1960's, Bennie owned a gasoline station, which allowed him to meet some of our famous black history makers, such as Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.In 1946, Bennie married the late Gertrude James and this union nine children were born.In addition to his parents and wife, Bennie was preceded in death by three sons, Henry Harvin, James Harvin and Bennie Harvin, Jr., his siblings, William Harvin, Moses Harvin, Ernest Harvin, Rosa Jane Brown and Thomasena Brunson.Bennie departed this life on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DCBennie leaves to cherish his memory his children, Louise Harvin of Clinton, MD, Jesse Harvin of LaPlata, MD and David Harvin of Landover, MD, Gertie Harvin, Angela Harvin and Patrick Dickerson all of Washington, DC; daughter in law, Jacqueline Harvin; grandchildren, Tony Cooper, Teresa Bailey, Toshia Clark, Markeith Harvin, David Massey, Tracy Massey, Terrace Harvin, Maurice Harvin, LaMar Harvin, Markita Bryant, Robert Bennett, Derrick Napper, Joseph Bennett, Teryneona Beard and Diamond Scott; great grandchildren, Anthony Willis, Sheena Willis, Patrick Willis, Erin Bailey, Ebony Bailey, Juarez Cooper, Markel Clark, Mekhi McAllister, Markeith Lynch, Devonte Lynch, Taj Bennett, Nakyia Charles, KeiShawn Charles, Jamari Samuels, Joseph Bennett, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends Interment Information Cane Savannah Cemetery Cane Savannah Road Sumter, South Carolina, United States Visitation When Friday, June 3rd, 2016 3:00pm - 6:00pm Location Whites Mortuary, LLC Address 517 N.
