Psalm 34:18 Almeta Gaymon Nelson, the wife of the late Furman Nelson, Sr. was born June 10, 1930, in Clarendon County, South Carolina to the late Tanzie Thomas and Cornie Brown Gaymon. Almeta was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her children. She reared several of her grandchildren. Almeta was a caretaker for several homes and businesses in the community. She enjoyed cooking and singing gospel music. She had a green thumb for gardening. Almeta's favorite hobby was "raking her yard, every day." Almeta was the last living child of her parents, Tanzie and Corine Gaymon. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Furman Nelson, Jr.; a daughter, Shirley D. Nelson Cousar; three brothers, Bo Gaymon, Levi Gaymon and Charles Gaymon; and four sisters, Sarah Bozier, Sue Perteet, Victoria Durant and Carrie Green. Almeta Gaymon Nelson went from labor to reward on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Sumter, South Carolina. Almeta leaves to cherish her precious memories, her two sons, James Nelson and Edward Nelson, both of Sumter, South Carolina; three daughters, Marjoree Nelson, Maebell Farmer and Shavell Nelson, all of Sumter, South Carolina; twenty-two grandchildren; and was blessed with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
