To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens. Mrs. Ada Mae Johnson Wells fulfilled the purpose that was destined for her life, from the time of her arrival on May 21, 1950. She was born in Sumter County to the late Johnnie Johnson and Mary James Johnson. She received her formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. Mae, as she was affectionately called, had a great love for people, and her inter-personal relationship skills allowed her to work as a home care giver. One of her greatest assets in life was her commitment to service. She often visited persons who were sick, shut-in, and down-hearted to encourage and uplift their spirits. Her family was her pride and joy, and she was always concerned about their well-being, helping them whenever needed. For her kindness, compassion, and helpfulness, God blessed her beyond what was imagined. Mae was nurtured spiritually at St. James Holiness Church and House of Prayer of Worship and Praise, Sumter SC and Congruity Presbyterian Church, Gable SC. As for her service in the church, it was proven that ushering was truly her calling. She embraced the scripture which says, I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of the wicked." She was a dedicated servant. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Kevin Johnson; three sisters, Rosa Lee Johnson Lewis, Loretta Johnson Green, and Annette Johnson Joyner; four brothers, Johnnie Lee Shaw, Harry Shaw, Jackie Shaw and Solomon Henry Johnson; a niece who was like a daughter, Catherine Johnson Spain; and a cousin who was like a sister, Mary Louise McDowell. Mrs. Ada Mae Johnson Wells departed this life on Friday, May 12, 2023.
