She was born in New York, NY at Metropolitan Hospital on May 13, 1960 to Josephine Tavarez and the late Luis Ortiz. Carmen grew up in New York and attended New York City public schools. She was passionate about serving her community and working with people in service. She volunteered at her daughter’s school, PSA 189, as the PTA President. She worked in retail, where her dedication and hard work led her to several promotions at K-mart in New York City, and Walmart in Indian Trail, NC, where she recently retired. Carmen was a God loving woman. She spent time during her day in devotion and reflecting on God’s word. She faithfully attended and was a member of New Beginnings Church, Indian Trail Campus. Her faith in God was as big as her love for her family. Carmen was a very honest and selfless person showing love and compassion to everyone around her. She was family-oriented. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Although she lived many miles away from family and friends, she enjoyed the technology of face-timing and always welcomed family and friends to visit. Carmen loved her dogs, Sheba and Stormy. Carmen met the love of her life, Billy (Papi), 16 years ago and they were married on September 10, 2016. She was the apple of his eye and he meant the world to her. Carmen and Billy spent many adventurous days together. They enjoyed traveling and many outdoor activities. Fishing, camping, biking and kayaking, are just a few. Carmen brought love and joy to her family and will truly be missed. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Leola McNeil. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband, Billy McNeil; mother, Josephine Tavarez; sons, Anthony (April) and Jose Eilets, daughter, Dominique Vargas; grandchildren, Noah Eilets, Masiah Beckford, Axcel Eilets and Elijah Vargas; sister, Migdalia Arzola; brother-in-law, Charles McNeil, sisters-in-law, Melvetta Holford, Karen McNeil and Kathy McNeil-Griffith (Livingstone), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
